Is Whatsapp Backup doubled in iphone ? If yes why is the size different in each backup ?

Hi guys:

I noticed that Whatsapp backup on iphone is doubled. I need to delete one of them to save storage space but I am worried which one to delete. Come with me to see how there is two backups for my whatsapp on the same icloud and iphone.


First backup is made through Whatsapp itself using iCloud drive, so when I delete Whatsapp then I reinstall it I can get the backup from Chat restore option.

I reach this screen via:

Settings > My name > icloud > Manage storage (then you see Whatsapp storage size is 5.9 GB.)

Second backup for Whatsapp is made through Iphone Backup option. In this case Whatsapp could be restored with the restore of the iphone as whole when switch to a new device for example.

I reach this screen via:

Settings > My name > icloud > Manage storage > Backups > Device name (then you see Whatsapp storage size is 9.46 GB.


So as you noticed guys now we have two backup for the same App.

But each one is different in the size on the storage. I attached two screenshots so you can notice that the storage size of the first back up is different from the second back up.

Why it is different however it is the same App and on the same device ?

If you have not tried already, restart your device and check to see if the issue remains. If the issue remains, since WhatsApp is a third-party app, you'd want to reach out to the developer.
