Unpaired Apple Watch won't pair & won't update

I tried to pair my watch to my new iphone (11Pro) with no luck.

It said it required an ios update.

I unpaired, and reset the watch.

The watch is now no longer showing any apps - therefore no general / settings accessible.

The phone and the watch recognise each other, as in they both try to pair when nearby.

I run ' start pairing' / phone says Update your Apple Watch. I click 'Update Now' then get the message Pairing Failed - start again. The phone they unpairs and I am back to the start.

I have actually been playing with this on an off for a couple of months and it is driving me crazy!!!

Is there a way to manually push an update to the watch??

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :-)

You should follow these steps to remove the watch from your old phone;

What to do before you sell, give away or trade in your Apple Watch, or buy one from someone else – Apple Support

You can try updating from the watch itself but the watch still has to be paired with the watch first.

Did you remove the watch from your old phone's icloud account?,if not then it is activation locked to your old phone.

Hi @fieryjack, thanks for the help!

OK, I tried this with my old phone. The phone and the watch see each other and try to pair. I can see ' restore from backup' for my watch on there (last backup Nov 19). It appears to try to pair, then the error message pops up over the process "pairing failed".

Anything else I should be trying??
