Apple Watch battery draining fast after 6.2.1 update

Since update 6.2.1 my iwatch 5 battery is draining very quickly within 2 minutes it has gone from 100% to 97%, then 97% to 92% within 5 minutes.

You can actually sit and watch the % go down like some ticking timer.

Apple needs to sort this out quickly as the watch is dead within about 3 hours. The watch is rendered useless.

No new apps added or changes made to the phone only the update.

Anyone found this issue since the update?

click on iwatch app on iPhone.

once open click your iwatch, in my case Neils Apple Watch.

Then Tap the little i to the right of the displayed watch face.

then tap unpair iwatch.

then on your iwatch go into settings, general, reset, erase all content but remember to keep celluar settings when prompted. Once erased just reconnect to iPhone and restore from back up

I have a similar problem. series 3 was working fine good battery life and within a day battery life degraded to less than a day. Without doing anything battery life improved - back to normal quite suddenly, but after about a week of normal battery it again degraded to less than a day. Tried re- paring with iPhone, but still no better - any ideas ?

Same issue, looks like i am on version 6.2.8. Had issues starting around July 1 but finally acting on it. I have tried all the solutions above (re-start, unpait/repair) but i can't do the I am able to unpair the iphone and iwatch.

After i unpair, I am not able to get into the watch to get to settings etc without re-pairing to iphone.

After it was paired, i reset all and kept cellular plan.

Fingers crossed

I made a post the other day about mine. Apple had me do a total factory rest on both devices. Set the iPhone to devise, wait 3-4 days to install apps and it should be fine. With mine I have a series 4 with cellular and gps and my battery was only lasting about 4 hours. After doing the whole factory pain in the *** reset I haven’t had any problems and I’m going on my second week. I can get almost 2 full days on my watch now. Hope this helps. I know it sucks doing a whole reset.

Same here @wealthychef.

no music on watch, but problem has come up multiple times on different hardware (S4 and S5 restored from S4 backup).

the “fix” you mentioned works until the problem inevitably comes back. Not clear if the problem coming back is a result of time, or RE triggered by infrequent watchOS updates.

Apple needs to get it together and fix this issue.

IF you see it stuck charging at 99%, try resetting it by holding the two side buttons for like 10 seconds until it reboots. That should take it to 100%. After that, it would be interesting to see if anyone sees the drain still right away or if that's another temporary "fix." My watch is working good right now since doing that. But of course I expect more f*kery to come.

Here's how I ensure my watch never runs out. Every morning, I put my watch on the charger until it gets to about 99%, where it always sticks for an hour or more, often never reaching 100%. At that point, I reboot my watch, and it comes up with 100% battery every time, immediately. After that, the watch acts correctly. I would tell this to Apple but I really have to clue where to send the information. Hopefully they read this forum occasionally. I believe this shows the problem is in software.

I had the same problem when I installed watch0S7.0. Suddenly my battery was draining so quickly that by mid morning I was down to 28%. I’ve rarely had this happen. I followed your instructions and it’s 20:40 and I still have 41% on my battery. So thank you, it seems to have worked.

Sorry, I posted this on the wrong post initially.

What is "this" that worked for you? I'm seeing a lot of vague posts here. For me, the thing that works is to make sure my watch says 100% charged when I take it off the charger. If it sticks on 99%, I reboot the watch with the two side buttons while still on the charger and when it comes back online it always says 100% and works fine for that day. I do this every day because it works so why not?
