Apple Watch battery draining fast after 6.2.1 update

Since update 6.2.1 my iwatch 5 battery is draining very quickly within 2 minutes it has gone from 100% to 97%, then 97% to 92% within 5 minutes.

You can actually sit and watch the % go down like some ticking timer.

Apple needs to sort this out quickly as the watch is dead within about 3 hours. The watch is rendered useless.

No new apps added or changes made to the phone only the update.

Anyone found this issue since the update?

Update: I have had to disconnect my iwatch from my iPhone (back it up first) and then reset the iwatch wiping everything from it by going into settings, general, reset, Erase all content and settings. It asked if I wanted to keep cellular settings to which I tapped Yes.

Once completed I then reconnected it to my iPhone. iPhone asks to either set up as a new watch or restore the back up. Obviously I restored from back up.

Since doing this yesterday evening and charging over night my iwatch has now started to hold its charge. Since taking it off charge at 8:00hrs and wearing today it is still at 81% at 17:30hrs so appears to have been sorted the problem.

Worked for me so see how it goes if you have the same problem.

Update**after the online and phone support. They stated it was my battery. I still don’t agree but I did pay $94 for battery replacement. That included shipping, part and labor. I was sent a replacement watch, apparently they don’t replace batteries. Now I could have used that money to upgrade but my watch has sentimental value (anniversary gift) and I have stainless steel version. Since getting the replacement I paired it with my phone, charged it but didn’t use it. Waiting for screen protectors. The replacement watch drained from 100% to 77% while sitting on my dresser while I was out for work. I was gone maybe 8 hours total. I did another chat because I didn’t understand why. I was told to unpair, shutdown, turn on and repair. I did do that. Today I left it at home again fully charged. I been gone 9 hours and battery is at 94% after returning. Regardless I still think the update did something to my watch to begin with. I went from being able to go almost 2 full days on a complete charge Pre-update to battery drain and charging issues immediately after update. I hope more people keep sharing their stories.

Also there was a video on YouTube about watches and when Apple says it’s a battery issue but might not be, look for it and try the steps if you’re considering repairing or replacing.

So far, since the update people have complained from series 2(me) through series 5 about the same issues after the update.

I am having a lot of problems since 6.2.1 update

  1. Battery remains stuck at 100% for a few hours and then shuts down
  2. Battery drops to 70% especially after a an outdoor exercise and shuts down, and if I use a charger the phone again shows 70% and charges back to 70%
  3. I reset the phone twice, did the shutdown and up again - but no use
  4. Removed a few apps, and some of the watch optimisations - still no use
  5. Had a chat with Apple support but no use. One suggestion was to use the power reserve option, which again is pointless having an Apple Watch

Same issue, looks like i am on version 6.2.8. Had issues starting around July 1 but finally acting on it. I have tried all the solutions above (re-start, unpait/repair) but i can't do the I am able to unpair the iphone and iwatch.

After i unpair, I am not able to get into the watch to get to settings etc without re-pairing to iphone.

After it was paired, i reset all and kept cellular plan.

Fingers crossed

I do have another bit to add to the puzzle. I also have this issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7016543#:~:text=Devices%20like%20this%20usually%20don,monitor%20is%20never%20getting%20reset.&text=Same%20here.,it%20can%20charge%20to%20100%25 When the watch is charging, it takes forever to get that last 1% and go from 99% to 100%. If I restart the watch and keep it on the charger, it goes to 100% so quick I'd call it immediate. I don't have evidence yet, but it's suspicious and seems related to battery management problems. Does anyone else see this?

I had the same problem when I installed watch0S7.0. Suddenly my battery was draining so quickly that by mid morning I was down to 28%. I’ve rarely had this happen. I followed your instructions and it’s 20:40 and I still have 41% on my battery. So thank you, it seems to have worked.
