Podcasts not updating on watch

So it seems this podcast issue on Apple Watch is still not fixed.

I have about 10 different podcasts I listen to regularly. They work perfectly from my phone - both streaming and downloaded. When I try and sync these to my watch it sticks on "updating". So I can't download podcasts to my watch to listen to when I am not tethered or on wifi - which means if I go for a run, I have to carry my phone. Music syncs perfectly to the watch - just not podcasts.

I have tried everything. Deleting the podcast app, reinstalling. Deleting and then re-pairing the watch to my phone. Checking I subscribe to podcasts. Making sure both phone and watch are charging. Using bluetooth / wifi / combination of both. Trying both "custom" and "listen now". All software is updgraded to the latest version.

I have tried overcast but the same issue appears - podcasts sync maybe 1 in 5 times but it's very patchy.

Help. I'm going nuts here. Am I missing something obvious?

Hi, i’m here again for an update. After a lot of unsuccessful talks with apple support, unpairing watch and reseting iphone, i found an answer. Well, actually that one senior adviser i talked to recently solved that mystery, like he said that is from his experience.

So what you need to do is just wait a loooot more or just left it for a night.

To make syncing faster - you need to put your iphone and watch far from each other so that bluetooth starts breaking and it will use WiFi instead. (You can’t turn it off cause it kinda doesn’t work, idk. That’s that he said, you just can’t.)

At first i didn’t believed him and was really sceptical and hopeless but it worked and today i was listening to podcast in the gym! Try it and update if it really works for everyone.

I have EXACTLY the same issue. Help!! I bought the watch solely so I can listen to podcasts while running.

Same issue here. I have tried everything mikeOxhuge has mentioned and it absolutely does not work. After deleting the podcast app, now all that I get is this on my watch:

Still not fixed, and no idea of a resolution path yet. I’m close to giving up, but will carry on and post updates for you, my fellow podcastians!

Yes, exactly! At least it worked for me. I hope it will help and nobody will need to reset everything they’re using.

I had this work around for a while as well, then recently Outcast did an update and that doesn’t work anymore either!! This is indeed annoying

Same here. I'm at my wits end! I'm going to sell my apple watch and just give up. It does NOT work as advertised.

Yup, I’ve tried that, tried unpairing, resetting my watch, resetting my PHONE (dangit)... it might work as hoped for a day, but it will invariably revert to failing-to-sync before long.

Wanted to add my voice... same issue.... the app says 'updating' and stays there for hours (til i finally give up)

I have the same issue. Switched to Overcast - available in the App Store - and its working fine. So far.
