iPad Pro 11 2020 (2nd gen) Battery Life

I have the 2020 (2nd gen) iPad Pro 11 256gb WiFi tablet. I’m not necessarily one that has many apple products, but I have purchased every iPad that has ever been released. At this point, this is completely anecdotal, but my battery life is no where near what I have remembered in the past. Most recently, based on using the iPad Pro 11 WiFi (2018 edition) even just a few days ago in basically the same routine each day, I’m noticing obvious declines. In looking at the battery settings, I do not see anything that particular sticks out as an app that is using battery more than normal, but it is just noticeable.

Typically, when I buy a brand new iPad I set it up as a new iPad, but I did restore this one from a cloud backup from my previous pro, but seeing there was no issues in my iPad Pro 2018, I’m not sure why that would be the reason.

I am curious if there are others noticing the same thing?

Thanks. Stay safe!

Thanks for the reply. Wow, your device is definitely taking a hit. In your situation, it sounds like an intensive app was left running overnight? Mine has been using the battery so much, I'm actually cutting mine off at night - something that I never did before. I may test it tonight, because if i lose 15% in standby mode, then something is definitely wrong.

So glad to see this type of support and others having the same issue. I explained this multiple times, but I've had every single iPad. This one is by far the worst i've seen on battery. New processor causing the issue, Lidar components, who knows? I have all background processes off, and obviously, that takes away some of the functionality of some of the apps, but it's the only way to get even acceptable battery life. I know there is already talk about a mini-LED iPad coming in the near future, and I'm typically one that jumps to the newest tech, but I'm so upset at Apple's response to this. They haven't said a word, and support chat and calls usually end up talking to someone saying "your the first to ever say this," or something else dumb.

Great form factor, but this iPad has probably been the worst one I've had - especially when considering the insane price.

Your post was a good reminder. I too have had most every iPad model starting withe first one. My wife has had most of the mini’s and my son several of the standard models. All of those had far superior battery performance. I never had to worry.

I really like the new form factor but may return it and replace it with the new Air. My battery is now down to 25% (from 49% 4 hours ago). It sat for most of that time other than some website shopping and a couple of emails. Doesn’t feel very Pro :-)

Much the same here. Two week old iPad Pro 11” 128gb Gen 2 model that loses about 5-15% overnight while “off”.

Most background app refreshing disabled too.

The Apple Pencil 2 seems to have no effect on that (little or no increase in drain).

I did restore this device from a backup of my trusty Gen 5 iPad this replaced... So, I will reset and start from scratch to see if any change in results - but not anticipating anything.

I have had two of the ipad pro 11inch tablets in two weeks. I though something was wrong with the 1st one. Im not having as much of a battery drain as others while not in use. Whiles using battery drains way fastest than I could imagine. This is my 1st ipad and im really disapointed. Last full charge a little over 24hrs ago (which it is telling me last charge was last week) and the battery has drained more that 20% with not even two hrs of use. So tempted to return and try again in a year or two idk.

Hi all,

I'm experiancing the same issue, started a few days back.

A few days ago, my iPad Pro 2020 11in was acting all fine, e.g. on standby screen off, no apps running in the background, the battery was only dropping 1% per day.

All the sudden it started to loose battery very fast, even when it is on standby screen of. It looses over 10% of battery overnight.

Bit of a background - I updated my iPad to IOS 14.2 a few weeks back, it behaves normally until a few days ago it started to have battery issue.

I spoke to a support tech today, and he helped me to ran a diagnostics on my iPad. The results were all fine, he couldn't see anything wrong with my battery, it was 100% capacity. Then he helped me to book a time to get my iPad in for a teachnician to check it on the coming Monday.

I will post some update on Monday for the result.
