Xcode builds document instead of executable

Hi there, I have made an application using c++ and XCode, when I compile and run within XCode it opens in it's own window and runs perfectly, however when I attempt to open the executable from finder, the product is not an executable, but a document and I can't open it.

normally compiling generates an executable so I am unsure why this has started happening now.

please advise.

Xcode: Executable not found So I have a project and the executable inside the ".app" file is not generating. I've made a new project to test it out and deleted the executable, and on the next build, it regenerated, so why isn't it on this old project. Is it something with the code, build settings, something else? I've been searching for this answer for a while because it becomes a pretty big issue when I can't run my app. What do I do? xcode cli does not install to /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools On a newly formatted system with Ventura 13.5.1. When I run xcode-select --install everything looks fine and it goes through the install process without any errors. However, after install there is nothing in /Library/Developer, in fact, there isn't a Developer folder. No idea where it installs to. I tried install it by downloading the .dmg file from Apple and same results. When I go into software update, it does have an update for CLI but again, after installing, still nothing in /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools and the update is still there. I'm not sure where to find where the cli was installed to? This is also causing Homebrew install to fail b/c it wants the cli in /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools and it fails when it tries to switch to that dir. I also tried installing Xcode itself, that got me the tools like git but again, Homebrew install fails b/c there's still nothing in /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools. Any suggestions?

Why has Apple removed the direct download link for XCode command line tools? We used to be able to do a direct download of the DMG for xcode command line tools from the Apple website at https://developer.apple.com/download/all/?q=Command%20Line%20Tools%20for%20Xcode%2014 However, this no longer works. There's even a link saying more downloads, but this only takes you back to the OS section of the Downloads page. I don't want to download all of XCode because it's several GB and I'm on a metered internet connection. If I try to download the command line tools from the terminal using `xcode-select --install`, it opens a pop-up, but this has been stuck at "67 hours, 29 minutes remaining" for several hours now: I just recently upgraded to macOS Ventura, and now I cannot work anymore because all my software development tools require xcode's command line tools! Please help! Bring back the direct download, as that used to always be much faster...

Ok I worked out my issue. My executable was named "myProgram_1.0"

using the period in the executable name was confusing the executable extension changing it to an underscore solved my issue.
