videos I record replay with static rather than correct audio

All the audio features on the phone work fine, except that when I record a video with the camera, the audio is replaced by something that sounds like white noise.

Hey there alimargit,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand the audio on your videos are not working as expected. I’ll be happy to help with this.

There are a few things you can do to isolate this issue. First, using the Camera app, record two videos with both the rear and front facing cameras. See if the audio is affected in both.

Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off. Test a video with this off and see if it sounds as expected.

Test the audio in a Voice Memos recording as well. If you have another app you can record video with, see if videos recorded there have the same issue.

If you have a case or screen protector on your iPhone, remove those and test again.

Other steps that may help include force closing the Camera app and restarting your iPhone:

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone

Also, make sure your iPhone is up to date:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can read more about the suggested steps from above here:

If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working

Regards.

Hi alimargit,

Thanks for going through those steps and providing that info. So you're aware, the Camera is not expected to be in the Microphone Privacy Settings.

Does the static noise last the entire video or for just a portion of it? One thing that may help would be to back up your iPhone and reinstall iOS using the steps from these links:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If that doesn’t help, restore your iPhone to factory settings as seen here:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

You will need to enter your Wi-Fi password after this so be sure you have that handy before taking this step.

If the issue does not continue in factory settings, restore your backup and test once more:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Take care.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the reply! I think it might be a problem with the app (or a couple apps) because voice memos, speaker phone calls, and FaceTime all work just fine.

I also tried restarting the phone, which didn’t solve it.

When I go to settings > privacy > microphone, the camera isn’t listed — I wonder if that’s a problem?

One other note is that I used to be able to dictate text by hitting the microphone button on the keyboard, but when I do that now, it seems not to be able to hear my voice.

If you have any other advice I’d appreciate it!
