Connecting Wacom Cintiq 12wx to iMac 2019 advice

I’ve just bought a new iMac after my old one (a late 2009 model) died on me last month. I’m currently in the process of getting it all up and running, but appear to have hit a bit of a snag when it comes to connecting my Wacom Cintiq 12wx.

The Cintiq is connected via a dvi cable, and obviously on the old Mac I was using a mini-dvi adapter. For the new Mac, I bought a mini-dvi to thunderbolt 3 adapter and have plugged it in, but it doesn’t appear to be working.

The tablet itself seems to be working fine, I can move the cursor around the desktop without any issue, it’s just the monitor in the tablet isn’t turning on.

Has anybody run into this issue before, or any advice on what adapters I should be using? I’ve seen somebody suggest getting a dvi-to-hdmi adapter and connecting it to an hdmi-to-thunderbolt adapter, but that was in a post from over a year ago, and given how much can change with Apple hardware these days, I was wondering if there’s anybody out there with a little more up to date advice? Or is daisy-chaining adapters together still the answer?

Thanks in advance.

Look closely at the DVI port on the back of your Wacom 12wx video converter. This will determine if you spend less for a single-link (DVI-I), or a great deal more (DVI-D) on a USB-C to DVI-I, or USB-C to active, dual-link DVD-D cable. Wacom liberally uses the term DVI which can confusing. Any further questions on the correct cable type should be directed to Wacom support for an explicit answer.
