Using iPhone as an External Camera for Mac FaceTime or Zoom

How can I cause my superior iPhone 11 Pro camera to become my external camera for FaceTime, Zoom and other such apps running on an iMac or MacBook Pro? I know I can log each device into the same meetings, which is not a terrible solution, but can I override the Mac camera via some wired or wireless link to the iPhone? I should think this would be possible but Apple Support said no the other day. Do any clever workarounds come to mind?

Some good 3rd party solutions have been developed, notably EpocCam from Kinoni.com. But unfortunately FaceTime doesn't accept the video feed as an entry, and Zoom has just released an update which kill the feature as well (I am still using it but keep an older version of Zoom: 4.6.8). Otherwise, the solution still works very well with Skype, Facebook Messenger, etc.
