Music Files - Location

We bought a 10 TB drive from the Apple Store for all our music and movies that we purchase from the iTunes store. I have changed the location for the music files to a new folder on that new drive in my preferences.

Why does a Music/Music/Media folder exist on my Macintosh HD?

Is this created by Music?

Do I need to keep these files? I would think that the Main Macintosh HD is for main programs etc.


We have been copying all our music files into the new location and are looking to keep all files as cleaned up as possible/

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.15

Setting up a new location in Preferences does not cause any existing files to move. Once you have the new location set up, you can run Consolidate to put your library in that new location:
