Why can't I send messages from my Macbook Pro?

Within the last few weeks I have lost the ability to send messages from my Macbook Pro. I can receive them, but not send. I checked the messages settings on my iPhone to make sure my Macbook Pro is toggled on for text message forwarding and I've tried just restarting both my phone and Macbook. I'm not sure what else could be the problem. My Macbook is up to date with Mojave 10.14.6 and my iPhone 11 is also up to date with iOS 13.4.1 Thanks for the help.
