converting audio cassette to digital file

using Hi Sierra 10.13.6 with walkman mini plug into mike input on IMAC then opening garageband which asks for plug in update for Audio Unit “AUNetReceive” by “Apple”. I'm old & weary and garageband looks tough! Then so does audacity? where can i find / how do i …oy vey

cassette to macbook pro, tape deck not recognized? So, I have old tapes of family music and other recordings on cassette tape, and I want to digitize on the macbook pro, running Catalina. I don't like itunes, so I downloaded audacity, planning to use that instead. I'm coming off of the tape deck with the RCA style connection, going into an 'audio grabber connection' I got off Amazon like this; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079CBGDST/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which is supposed to convert for usb connection into the macbook. So far, so good. Now,...I go to System Preferences, and set up input for USB PnP Audio Device, which is my only choice other than the built in mic;

ahha a cassette deck with low impedance? output solved the issue now i have to figure out garage band, thx a lot

Which iMac? Your walkman's signal is way too strong for a mic input.
