Installing Apps By Dragging to Applications Folder Just Creates an Alias

Whenever I download a dmg file for an application and double-clicked the dmg to open the file, then drag the app to the Application Folder, it now creates an Alias in the Application Folder and creates a new mount file in the Downloads Folder where the downloaded dmg file is located. This behavior started a month ago.

In the past, whenever dragging an app to Application Folder, it installed the app in the Application Folder. When I open Finder, I can see the mount points in the Sidebar. If I click to eject, then click on the app alias in the Application Folder, it recreates the mount.

Can anyone tell me what is happening here? How do I stop this behavior? I posted a pic below to help explain this. Thanks.

When the LibreOffice .dmg mounts, and opens — there will be the LibreOffice application, an alias to the Applications folder, and the two folders which are part of the installer. You are to drag and drop the LibreOffice icon onto the Application folder alias in the open installer, and that will then install the LibreOffice application into your actual Applications folder. If an older version of LibreOffice exists in your Applications folder you will be prompted whether to replace it or not.

When LibreOffice is installed, you eject the installer from your Desktop — which you have not done with Gnucash-3.10 either.
