Unable to attach files

When trying attach files either in email or in various apps (ie linkedin) when I click attach it displays the system dialog to browse/search files. I can see the file I want to attach but I can’t figure out how to select it. The only options I seem to have are rename or soft/hover click to bring up the context menu which lets me copy, paste, move or share. But just tapping on the file does nothing so I effectively can not attach a file. I think this behavior may have changed with the last system update. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong but if there is a way to do it it’s not intuitive.
