mouse and iMac miscommunications
When I click the mouse to start typing, a drop down menu appears and won't let me type until I get rid of the menu which takes multiple clicks. What's wrong?

You have selected "Secondary click" in System Preferences...Mouse>Point and click. You can deselect that option, or click on the left side of your mouse when you want to type.
