iphone 11 pro max front camera quality

After upgrading phones from the 8 to the 11 pro max I am greatly disappointed. In a phone, i value the camera quality over almost anything. With over 12,000 photos in my cloud, taking photos is a big aspect of why i have a smart phone. Reading the reviews on the iphone 11 pro max, this phone seemed promising. However, upon looking at the front camera, it almost embarrassing how bad it is compared to my older iphone 8. Spending over 1 grand to get the best phone only to realize it’s front camera is worse than a phone almost 3 years older than the one i have now is extremely upsetting. Taking photos is a daily thing in my life, and to have this quality on a phone as expensive as this is outrageous in my opinion. I would expect better on a phone priced so highly

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities Abbymaack,

I see that you're having an issue with the quality of the photos that you're taking with your iPhone. I take a ton of photos with my iPhone as well, so I understand wanting to have good clear photos, and I'd be happy to look into this with you.

Let's start by having your force close any apps that you have open, restart your iPhone and test to see if the issue remains.

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone

You can also try turning off your Smart HDR settings to see if that makes a difference in how your front-facing photos come out. You can find steps on how to do this in Adjust HDR camera settings on iPhone, specifically this section:

"On iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max: Go to Settings > Camera, turn off Smart HDR. Then from the camera screen, tap HDR to turn it off or on."

If the issue remains, respond back with the answers to the following questions.

  1. Does this happen only in the Camera app, or any app that accesses the camera?
  2. Which version of software are you currently using?
  3. Does the same thing happen with the rear facing camera?
  4. Are you experiencing this when using a different mode in the Camera app?
