Spinning wheel in FCPX is killing me.

I'm editing several 2 hours long screen recordings with very basic transitions from a plugin, but the entire software keeps hanging on the spinning wheel every 30 mins or so. It seems like it happens when I put a JPEG file on the MPEG4 footage.

I've tried transcoding the footages to proxies, tried force quitting FCPX but FCPX will not start after I force quit it. Have reset my PRAM using terminal sudo -c too, after upgrading my iMac to Catalina from Mojave.

Please help!

We need a lot more information.

Mac model, OS version, FCP X version, what is the system drive, how full it is, what drive contains the media, how it is connected, how full.

Also, often the problems are related to other software installed. Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here.

Use the "additional text" button and paste the report in there.

Still, the information in that Etrecheck report may help.

Your mac is not one of the most powerful, but should be able to handle it.

You have more than enough free space.

It is possible that your drive is not fast enough, or that it is failing

Editing drive:

Seagate Expansion Desk Media, Disk, GUID Partition Map, Connection: USB

(Total: 5TB)

(Used: 3.2TB)

(Available: 1.8TB, 620KB purgeable)

Never really installed anything except for the latest security update.
