No onscreen keyboard appears in Apple TV app

I have recently bought the Apple TV 4K which comes with a remote.

However I also downloaded the iPhone app for the remote because as I understood it, that should allow me to use the keyboard on my iPhone to type in the search box without having to use the onscreen keyboard that you’d normally use of you used the TV Remote control unit.

However when I need to enter text I get a notification alright but then what appears is a trackpad as shown in the image below:

The keyboard doesn’t appear and thus I’m forced to use the onscreen keyboard using the trackpad and not my iPhone keyboard which would have made it easier.

The funny thing is in the beginning it was working fine. Especially when I had to enter a password I for a choice of accessing my keychain for saved passwords as well.

Irritatingly, this doesn’t happen anymore.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Here’s the full rundown of the feature:

Use a nearby iOS device to enter text on your Apple TV
On Apple TV, you can use a feature called Apple Remote Keyboard to quickly enter text on your Apple TV with a nearby iOS device. Here's how:
1. Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on your Apple TV and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
2. On your Apple TV and iOS devices, make sure that Wi-Fi is on.
3. On your iOS devices, check that Bluetooth is on.
4. Select a text field on your Apple TV. Then wait for a notification to appear on your nearby iOS devices.
5. Open the notification to begin typing with your iOS device's onscreen keyboard.

To turn off this feature on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings﹥Notifications﹥Apple TV Remote Keyboard.
Your iOS device might remember the password for services that you've logged in to with Safari before.
