How can I batch convert MS Word files to Pages?

I have a lot of Word files that are grayed out because I didn't want to pay for another upgrade after doing it a number of times over 20 years. I'd like to convert all of them to Pages (preferred) or Google docs. Any help is appreciated.

I would advise against an attempt to convert decades of Word documents to Apple's Pages document format. Yes, this can be automated, but will be ripe with interruptions in processing due to the fact that Pages is not a Word clone, and will invariably find Word document content that it cannot translate, or a document too old (< 2000), and interrupt the conversion process. In short, these conversion script interruptions will just be a PITA.

Alternatively, just use the free, 64-bit LibreOffice Suite. Best MS document compatibility outside of MS Office, and there won't be document age, conversion content issues, unless some of your Word documents use Word Basic macros. LibreOffice has evolved from the 1992 StarOffice, and is frequently updated. Although I have several versions of Pages here on different Macs, LibreOffice is also a common installation that I prefer when working with MS documents.
