APPLE ID SAYS IT IS NOT SUPPORTED AND WONT LET ME UPDATE MY PASS

My ipad is making me log in to my OLD apple ID, and i dont know the password, but when i go to get my password changed it says 'apple ID is not supported or valid' , it is my old email used for my Apple ID too, can someone please help??
