App Auto Updates Not Working

I have automatic updates turned on. When I go to the App Store and click on my name, I can see my recently updated apps. However, often times I go in the App Store either because I find an app misbehaving or I want to read the reviews for the app, and once I click on the actual name of the application, the “open” button changes to “update” when there was no indication that it needed to be update. These aren’t special updates that require permission approvals either, they are simple updates that can be done without even having to use face ID. I feel like it got worse once they changed the layout of the App Store.

so basically what happens is:

1. I search the app name. A list of results pops up and the app says “open.”

2. I select the app that I’m trying to find and “open” changes to “update”

3. If I go back to the previous page, the button that once said “open” now says “update,” which makes me think this may be a glitch.

I REALLY miss the updates section where you can go in and update all. Now all I can see is “recently updated.” Is it hidden somewhere? I’m running 13.4.1 on an 11 pro max and I verified automatic updates was turned on under iTunes and App Store. This isn’t issue new I’m just tired.

You ask a great question, myaiphone7.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I';d be glad to see how I can help you better understand updating your apps within the App Store using iOS 13.

You actually can still choose to update all of your apps at once. It sounds like you were pretty close. What you'll want to do is open up the App Store app, tap on your profile picture in the upper right, and then swipe down on the middle of the screen for a few seconds, as this will refresh the list of apps. Once that is done, any outstanding apps that have released updates but haven't yet been applied will be able to be updated all at once by tapping on the Update All button.

Hopefully that helps!

Take care.
