Cleaning keyboard macbook pro 16

Hi all

How do I clean the keyboard of the new MacBook Pro 16? Apple support simply says to use a damp soft lint free cloth but that is not going to be able to clean in between the keys properly. Also, debris might be pushed under the keys as a result.

Do you have any suggestions? Some use small desktop hoovers but they are quite expensive (around 60 pounds) and am not sure they are safe.

Many thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

How to clean the keyboard of your MacBook or MacBook Pro

  • Hold your Mac notebook at a 75-degree angle, so it's not quite vertical.
  • Use compressed air to spray the keyboard, or just the affected keys, in a left-to-right motion.
  • Rotate your Mac notebook to its right side and spray the keyboard again, from left to right

compressed air

Alternatively With your Mac turned off you can use:

—A cloth between the keys

—a Q-tip between the keys

— a shop vac/ vacuum hose and hold slightly off the key board and suck up any debris.

Many thanks for your response. Just tried to buy some compressed air (which I have never used) and found so many options and many bad reviews. This article also scared me quite a bit https://www.techspray.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-air-duster-but-were-afraid-to-ask

do you mind telling me which one you use?

many thanks

Anything of size and visible I just try and lift it off and out before it gets the idea to disappear under the keys.

When I had the shop vac out I use that method to suck out the dust on the keyboard and side ports, always using my fingers to keep a space a bit to hover just over the top. What you want to avoid is static electricity—this is why I recommend having the mac turned off.

The 16" MBP does not have the same issue as the butterfly keyboard from 2016-early 2019.
