Phone is constantly thinking it’s downloading something or trying to connect to something

Phone is constantly thinking it’s downloading something or trying to connect to something Next to my Verizon Wi-Fi signal at the upper left corner, there’s a spinning black wheel indicating something is downloading or my phone is trying to connect to something. Apple support cannot seem to find out why this happens. Initially they thought it had something to do with Siri. I’ve discovered once I tap the microphone to voice text or voice email, the wheel starts. I have to turn Siri on ask a question, press the home button five or six times And the wheel stops. However, it only stops for about 10 minutes. I don’t use Siri nor have I ever. I have her disabled. Does anyone have this type of issue where the phone is trying to connect to something or thinks it’s downloading something?

Hello, Ntrlvr34.

Thanks for getting back to us here in Communities with those additional details. Make sure that you have a current backup: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then I'd follow these steps to restore your iPhone back to factory settings: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Don't restore from a backup, set up as new and see if Siri still behaves the same. If it does, I'd suggest to continue to work with Apple on this issue.

Cheers!

Siri is completely disabled and turned off in settings as well as every single individual app. I have to turn Siri on from the home screen ask her a question cut her off and keep clicking the home button to get the spinning wheel to stop and that doesn’t always work. Then I have to go back and turn Siri off. It’s not nonstop it’s activated by the microphone I have determined that. I have no idea what else to do I’ve done a full reset, network reset, hard set, etc. I’ve been on the phone with Apple support Siri is completely disabled and turned off in settings as well as every single individual app. I have to turn Siri on from the home screen ask her a question cut her off and keep clicking the home button to get the spinning wheel to stop and that doesn’t always work. Hello, Ntrlvr34.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you have an issue with Siri constantly using the network. I'd like to help. Siri performs a lot of different tasks that does require an internet connection: Siri Suggestions, Search & Privacy

Have you tried to leave up for a certain amount of time? If so, how long?

This link has some great examples of what Siri might be doing: About Siri Suggestions on iPhone

You can also view what Siri has access to for apps by going to Settings > Siri & Search. If a specific app you have is causing Siri to run more often in the background, you can use process of elimination by either turning off/on apps to see if the spinning data wheel stops.

Keep me updated.

Cheers!
