My screen goes black unless I press the crown button
I have reset I watch and turned brightness to always on but screen stays black unless I press the crown button. I have done a hard reset and it did not fix the problem

Swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Control Center. Check to see if the Theater Mode is turned on. It is the icon with with the two face masks on it. That would keep the screen dark until you press the Digital Crown. If it is orange color, it is on. Tap it again to turn it off.
