Mac Book pro 16 crashing

Every time I open my macbook I get the message ( You computer restarted because of a problem )

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801d491b2c): Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while notifying clients about upcoming system capability changes. Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily. Thread 0x74.

I have tried a fresh install with the same problem. Any ideas?

Had the same problem

Status here

My GPU Panic sleep problem is still solved. I have since installed my video-rendering tools, my developer tools, all my other stuff.

My energy saving stuff is back to normal.

Having it gooing to sleep on power, on batteries

Running 10.15.4

Solution for me was

My brand new macbook pro 16 (Shipped 2. april 2020) also restarted (crashed) over nigth - actually it crashed (Kernel Panic GPU) everytime it went to sleep mode. I had nothing installed except default OSX with updates.

Solution details

  1. Reset: Pram & NVRAM (still crashed)
  2. Reset: SMC (still crashed)
  3. Internet Recovery Command+Option+R (when booting) (Crashed under installation, but continued afterwards)
  4. Disabled "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off." & "PowerNap.." in Energy Saver settings (Problems disappeared)
  5. Two days later I enabled "Prevent computer from sleeping...." and "Powernap..." again (Still no problems)

I don't know if step 1-3 is necessary, but I think so.

So a macbook pro 16 that I almost returned, is now working perfectly - and I'm very happy:-)

Safe Mode is called Safe Mode because it does not damage or change ANYTHING. It is SAFE.

Hold shift at startup, and your computer will start to boot up, then spend five minutes doing a disk directory check, then demand your userid and password to proceed. ONLY a minimal set of Apple-only extensions are loaded, and defaults are assumed for everything. Screen re-draw will be wonky and slow, but ultimately correct.

Things that work OK in Safe Mode, but not in regular mode are caused by "something you added".

I know Safe mode but I am wondering if it works in this case. I only don't know if I can but my Mac sleep in this mode. If yes I will try and check what happen. No kernel panic means soft issue related to something I added.

Especially that I found this in my kernel report:

loaded kexts:

com.parallels.kext.netbridge14.1.3 45485

com.parallels.kext.hypervisor14.1.3 45485

com.parallels.kext.vnic14.1.3 45485

Maybe Parallels causes problems. I don't know. after disable power nap and Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off everything is fine. I can live with that. No brainer as long as issue won't become more and more problematic.

Till Friday I can return my MBP. On the other hand I am worried that I can receive even worst machine with kernel panic during work or problematic Touch Bar

You know I’ve had success with of the fixes. So you told about return but on the other hand if fixes work keep it.

If it is hardware issue I will return even tomorrow. If it is software it doesn’t matter if it is new or used machine. Bug can appear every time you install new system or update. That’s how it works. People may return their machine and tell “hey the new one works well” but still it could be related to soft. New machine means same soft but different installation process maybe without bug

At the end I returned my MBP16 and order the next one. I started to have problem with Touch ID. I don’t know why. At first I thought it is related to time machine. Sounds strange but I had a problem with backup. It takes so long. I tried to do something but at the end I was unable to create backup at all. During this I had one freeze and two times Touch ID failure. Reset smc works but it was frustrating. Moreover after clean install again no responding Touch ID. Probably another soft issue but that was to much for me

If i just got this macbook on monday and apple support has told me to issue a return and refund if it continues, do I go through with the return or are you positive its software and will be fixed?

My main concern is that when it restarts while I am away, it gets stuck somewhere in the loading process and is burning hot by the time I get to it and that is more concerning than a small disk startup issue...
