Wrong image displayed on projectors / second monitor

On my macbook pro, when I plug in a second display (without mirroring) my second monitor always presents the main display rather than the second monitor image. So, the apple menu and contextual menus for whatever program is running go onto the second monitor. How do I get it switched back? I already tried resetting the NVRAM / PRAM. Thanks!

Hi vjalivewire,

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems like the wrong display is the main display.

  1. "Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Displays.
  2. Click the Arrangement tab.
  3. To change the position of a display, drag it to the desired position. A red border appears around the display as it's moved.
  4. To set a different display as the primary display, drag the menu bar to the other display."

Use external monitors with your Mac
