Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Can't Export/Share any iMovie project.

I can't Export/Share any iMovie project.

That's the error message:

"The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)"

I have found other threads suggesting these solutions:

  • rebooting in safe mode then immediately in normal mode again, and export again.
  • trying in 720p
  • remounting the whole video giving different names to all imported sequences manually before importing them

None of these solutions have worked for me. I am using El Capitan(10.11.6) on a MacBook Air.

I urgently need to export this for work,

please help if you have any suggestions

Hi, Nikidov,

The Compressor Kit Error message has been reported with increasing frequency

of late. No universal fix so far, although lately users with the problem have

been able to fix it by reinstalling/updating/upgrading iMovie and, if

necessary, the operating system.  Also

sometimes successful is starting up in Safe Mode (see Finder menu for

instructions) and then after everything loads immediately shutting down and

rebooting in normal mode.

Here’s a link to a thread where one poster solved the problem by removing a

64bit marker from an iTunes update:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251266351

Here's a link, though older, that describes what others have tried with the

Compressor Kit Error:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8265338

There may be some proposed solutions in the above link that will work for

you.

All else failing, try calling Apple Support. The techs there are very savvy

and also have the capability of remotely accessing your computer. Click on the

Contact Support item in the upper right hand corner of this screen and navigate

to a place where you can provide your telephone number so that Apple Support

can call you back. I think that the file path is Contact Support/Mac

OS/Applications/iMovie.

Good luck with this. If you have time, post back with your results, as it

may assist others who have this perplexing issue.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply.

As mentionned, I had already seen and tried the rebooting in safe mode and then normal mode again, without success in my case.

I couldn't update iMovie either, as I was already using the latest versionc ompatible with my operating system.

So i tried reinstalling it, and a new problem occured: after desinstalling it, it wouldn't let me reinstall it (error message: "failed to download"). So at that point, I couldn't even get iMovie back.

My last option -which i wanted to avoid because of my very limited memory on macbook air and not wanting to slow down the device - was to upgrade my operating system. I was using 10.10: Yosemite and now upgrated to Catalina 10.15.4.

This allowed me both to redownload iMovie and export my project without issues.

My issue now is that since my upgrade, i can't open my Photos library that is shared on my Airport Time Capsule (i'll open another thread for that I guess), and that my computer is indeed much slower.

However, thanks for your time.

You needed to put iMovie in the trash, but not empty the trash. Then if the redownload fails you just move it out of the trash.

Anyway, glad that you finally got it working, other than the Photos issue.
