Opening a shockewave file

My mac couldn't open a file ending in .swf so I downloaded the Adobe Shockwave installer, but when I try to open the file now, I get a popup window saying "Flash Player will damage your computer. You should move it to the Trash."

This file is supposed to be and educational game or video of some sort. It appears on numerous school sites so I assume it is safe.

You'd think .swf is a Shockwave file, given the extension starts with sw. But it's actually a Flash item.

Remove Shockwave (it is even more deceased than Flash). Then download and install the Flash Player. DO NOT acquire it anywhere then directly from Adobe.

Heck, I'm not even sure where you managed to find Shockwave. Even Adobe doesn't offer it as a download anymore.
