License Not Found

I keep getting a "License not found" message and it appears repeatedly throughout the day with no indication of what app it is, and the only logo on it is the App Store. Clicking on Cancel or retry does nothing. Cancel cancels the message, but it appears again later in the day.

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're seeing a prompt or error stating "License not found" as indicated in the photo you included. I also see that you're unable to discern the source of the prompt and canceling the message only causes it to reappear later. I can see why you'd reach out about this; I'd like to help. If you haven't already, try these steps first:


  • Quit the App Store: Quit apps on Mac
  • Restart your Mac
  • Verify you're connected to a strong Wi-Fi network, or try a different network if available.
  • Open the App Store and check for available updates.
    • Install updates if available; close or quit the app if none exist.
  • Take some time to test for the behavior.


If the behavior continues, start your Mac in safe mode and take some time to test for the behavior there as well: How to use safe mode on your Mac. If the issue seems to be resolved in safe mode, restart your Mac normally and test again.

Hi Chris, Thank you so much for replying this post.


I followed your steps and then some time later I was still getting the same error message. The last thing I tried was to go to our Jamfnow site and found an app that needed to be reinstalled, then after doing that I haven't seen the error message popping up again (so far). I keep checking, If it didn't work I will come back to the community.
