Apps vs IOS

Hi Community

Being new to Apple, I have setup an older IPad for my son for education as well as a little fun for himself to learn whatever he is interested in and play games.

The software version is IOS 10.3.4 but so many apps require IOS 11 or higher, what is the point of having one if basic apps cannot be used. The class is using Meet for online learning. YouTube needs 11 up and a whole bunch of games he has wanted to play.

I tried to upgrade the software but it is "the latest" obviously not supported any further. No we don't have a newer product so can't use families properly either.

Any advice or should I just throw it away?

No, your iPad isn’t useless or worthless - however, as an older device that is now unsupported, it is perhaps become less useful.

Update support for your iPad4 formally ended September 2017. The final IOS release for this model was iOS 10.3.3/4. Your iPad cannot be updated to any later major version of iOS as it lacks the minimum hardware requirements needed to run more recent versions.

Many App Developers have also dropped support for older devices and iOS versions preceding iOS11/12 - and have withdrawn older versions of their Apps from the Apple App Store.

If Apps that you need to use now have higher minimum iOS-version requirements, your only option is to replace your iPad with newer model. Even the basic current iPad model supports current iPadOS 13.x - and has hardware specifications that will vastly outperform your old iPad4.

I hope this information is helpful - if only in clearly stating your current options.

For YouTube videos, simply view the YouTube Website in a Web browser, Instead.

And writing abort Web browsers,

I would STOP using that nearly 3-year old Safari web browser, as it is, probably, not safe and secure to use any longer, and seek out a third party web browser that is STILL currently being updated and STILL being supported on iOS 9.3.5.

Here are a few third party web browsers that I know are STILL being updated and supported on iOS 9.

Available and more popular third party Web browser choices are dwindling faster, now.

There are still a handful of iOS 9 and earlier supported third party Web browsers.

Most of these have had recent updates, too!

Here’s what’s left.

iCab Mobile Web browser

Aloha Web browser

ALook Web browwer

Dolphin Web browser

DuckDuckGo Private Web browser

Snow Bunny Web browser

Maxthon Web browser

Private Browsing Web browser by Savvy Soda

Private Browser Deluxe

TOR browser anonymous

Turbo VPN browser

TOR + VPN web browser private

Good Luck to You!
