verifying iCloud is OFF for SAVING DOCUMENTS?

i have manually moved everything that i see in the FINDER ICON that says "iCloud" to my desktop and i BELIEVE I turned iCloud off so my mac does not try to save documents to the cloud.

however i have a feeling that i still get the .tef file extension sometimes when i am trying to save some FILES? like text files? or pages files?

is there a way to make sure it is OFF?

ALSO. can i get some kind of upper or lower dock icon like i have for any other functionality like this? i find it a pain to always have to go to finder to get into iCloud when i have DROPBOX and GOOGLE server icons up on the TOP where my TIME MACHINE backup and everything else it. ideas?

THANK YOU
