It sounds like you may well be confusing two very different concepts:

  • iMessages are messages sent to/from other Apple devices. If you set up iMessage correctly on each of your Apple devices, using your Apple ID and iPhone telephone number, each device will work independently and stay in sync.
  • SMS (and MMS) messages are sent to/from cellular telephones using the cellular carrier’s methods. Non cellular telephones such as iPads and Mac’s have no ability to send or receive SMS text messages. They may, however, use Apple’s Handoff to share these messages to/from an iPhone.

Hello

I finally figured it out! Thank you very much. What happened was that I recently replaced my IPhone,X and MacBook and when I when I went through the setting up of my MacBook I was prompted to change my Apple password and could not see a way out of that situation which may have been because I was still signed in on my Desktop Mac. This is where the problem began when I no longer was in sync with my messages coming in from my IPhone. I finally learned how to go into system preferences afterwards and was also able to change the Apple passwords so they were the same and it solved the problem instantly. What a relief. It's the little things that make things easier. HEY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RESPONDING! :) I have always been able to send messages with with my email address from my desktop Mac ( I have not checked out my IPad for a while I just moved and it is still packed and I have not gotten back into art.

Thanks again!

~Shannon
