iPhone X not showing in Finder for Wi-Fi Sync

I have connected my iPhone X to my Macbook Pro via a USB cable and turned on the 'Show this iPhone when on Wi-Fi' box, but whenever I unplug my phone it never shows up in the 'Locations' tab of my sidebar. I've tried it both with and without being connected to a different power source.

I've tried everything I could think of so I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this!

Does syncing occur while the iPhone is connected with a USB cable? This must be set up before Wi-Fi sync is allowed.
