Cannot transfer music from Mac to iphone. iTunes not compatible.

I have an old Mac (late 2008), and an iPhone X. I’m currently running 10.9.5 on the Mac. When I plug my phone into the Mac it says it’s not compatible with iTunes. Since my Mac is so old, I can’t update iTunes. Is there a work around for this? I know the easy answer is get a new Mac but I don’t think it should cost $1k+ Just to transfer my music. My wife’s iPhone 11 is the same way... thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Brettp2004,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you’re unable to sync your iPhone due to the software version installed on your Mac. I’m happy to provide some information.

According to the technical specifications for the iPhone X, you must be running the following:

Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:

Mac: OS X 10.10.5 or later

PC: Windows 7 or later

iTunes 12.7 or later

iPhone X - Technical Specifications

Depending on which Mac you have, you may be able to update to OS X Yosemite or OS X El Capitan:

If you’re unable to do so, it wouldn’t be possible to sync your iPhone with your Mac.

Take care.
