Spilled coffee on macbook pro

Earlier today i was working and my pup pushed my mug of coffee all over my laptop, I did have a cover on my keyboard. I was wiping off coffee and 1 min later I turned off the laptop and dried the rest of the coffee but now mouse pad won't let me click on anything and it makes a weird noise when I click on mousepad, so i have left the laptop off for hours now and I noticed the laptop won't turn on unless its plugged to the light. Should I be worried? I found a tech guy on homeadvisory and he is coming to pick up my mac, so I have no clue what to expect :( anyone else has been through this?

Hi, how old is your MacBook and do you have AppleCare Plus? If so it will cover repairs. If not then you will need to contact Apple Support and send it to them for inspection and they will quote you a price for repair. Coffee is bad, period, especially if you had sugar in it. Coffee alone is very acidic and if any of it seeped down onto the logic board corrosion will happen and short the logic board. Obviously even with your keyboard cover it didn't protect the trackpad so the coffee has seeped inside your MacBook. Since the trackpad sits right on top of the battery I would recommend to power it down and do not use until you contact Apple Support.

Worried how?

Liquid and electronics don't mix. Problems just tend to get worse. The first causality is typically the key board, that is an upper case replacement. Past that it is a logic board replacement.

If you have AppleCare+ it will cover a large portion of accidental damage.

https://www.apple.com/support/products/mac.html

AppleCare+ (similar for iPhone and iPad, each incident of accidental damage) for Mac will carry its own price tag. Screen damage or “external enclosure damage” will run $99 per incident, while other damage, including water damage, will run $299. Users receive coverage of two incidents under AppleCare+, and after the two incidents have been used up, out-of-warranty replacement rates will apply
