Smart folio keyboard doesn’t change language

I’ve just purchased the new iPad Pro 11 with its smartfolio keyboard....

Everything is good but the keyboard can’t swop languages.

I had an iPad Pro 10.5 with the  keyboard so I know how that works.

In my settings I have as language either English or French (I’m French).

Pressing the below key on the keyboard shows the 2 choices but nothing changes when I change to French.

When I type, it is still QWERTY when it is set as French instead of AZERTY like it should be.

I have done a hard reset of the iPad, i have also removed French from my keyboard setting and put it back.

No change....

Go back to where you have settings for Hardware Keyboard. Do you see a > over at the right edge of the list? Tap there for French. Does it say "French"? Make sure it does NOT say "automatic" or something else.

Go to settings > general > keyboard > hardware keyboard and tap over at the right edge for French. Make sure you select "French" there and NOT "automatic", "us", or something else.

(You can also set English there to "French" you want to type English with an azerty layout).
