Apple Watch Walk Exercise Credit

I have an Apple Watch 5, v6.1.3 and it’s unbelievable to me that Apple still hasn’t fixed the issue where you don’t get credit for the full length of a walk (the same issue I experienced with my series 2). I just walked over 2 miles with a well above ave heart rate and got 0 credit, zilch. The only way I can get credit for a walk is to choose an “other” exercise and forgo any GPS data.

This is unacceptable for a watch that cost me over $400. I don’t know what the deal is, but if it has anything to do with my heart rate...I’m going for a WALK not a RUN. I don’t care if my heart rate is so low the watch thinks I’m dead, if I walk 2 miles for 33 minutes I want CREDIT for 2 miles and 33 minutes of exercise.

I’ve had it with resetting and recalibrating... lets go Apple, fix this nonsense!

I have heard that according to Apple Support, for the activity ring to register your workout (for outdoor walk or exercise ring) you need to maintain a speed of approximately 3.3 mph or faster and increase your heart rate to approximately 75% of your High Heart Rate (from the iPhone Watch > Heart app). This definition of a "brisk walk" is to encourage you to put more effort into the walk, If you slow down or pause, the watch will stop giving you exercise credit, It will still measure your steps and calories burnt but will not give you any credit towards the exercise ring or workout app. A brisk walk speed is different for everybody as the watch takes into account your age, sex, weight, and heart rate which is why it is important to calibrate the watch and have the correct details set up in the Health app,

I can't vouch for any of those specific numbers, but I feel sure there is some kind of criteria. See the "Make sure that you earn Move and Exercise credit" section in:

I contacted Apple, no response. This just keeps getting worse. The other day, I walked on the beach, heart rate over 120 almost the whole time for 43mins. Got 2 mins of exercise credited. A walk like that was no problem when I first got the watch, what changed? I just finished yet another walk, this one around my neighborhood. 33 mins, heart rate around 125 the whole time. Got 0 credit, seriously, 0. Again, this had been credited previously without issue. This is getting really frustrating. I spent over $400 on something for the sole purpose of recording my walks and all of a sudden, it’s not working like it was and there doesn’t appear to be any concern or attempt by Apple to address it. And yes, I recalibrated and even reset all my health data the other day, nothing is working.

I don’t think this is the right way to measure a walk, like a said, if the GPS shows I walked 2 miles for 33 minutes, that’s my exercise. I walk with my wife and we can’t always walk too fast together, but that shouldn’t matter, I’m walking.

Also, my heart rate is well above average, around 20bpm or so higher then my rest rate. Another thing is, it started out fine, it just starts doing this after a while and I have to keep calibrating it, which doesn’t seem right to me.

With the amount of money I paid for the watch, it seems reasonable to expect consistency
