My printer HP Envy 100 D410 functions well with Mac OS Catalina as a printer - but the scanning function is not operative. I have downloaded the HP Smart app recommended by HP as a tool but am hesitant to use it. Any advice?

Why are you hesitant to use it, have you tried scanning through the Image Capture app in your Applications folder.

I now understand that my scanner function is working as intended - but I find the program less easy to use than the former now discarded program.
