Very slow download from iCloud To Mac photo app

Initially I was not able to download full resolution from iCloud however got fixed after contacting Apple support. but it is extremely slow. Few photos per hour!

I have about 30,000 files.

my download speed is about 30mb/s.

is this a normal rate for download from iCloud?

low resolution images (30,000 files) download fairly quickly with in couple of hours.

a after contacting support. Now I have about 1000 duplicate photos. But I can cross check & delete them manually.

I understand you have questions about iCloud taking a long time to download photos to your Mac. I'm happy to help with this.

It is not necessarily abnormal for your photos to take some time to download fully, especially when you're downloading a large amount a one time. Are you connected to the internet via Wi-Fi? If so, no matter how fast your internet connection is it can be slowed down if you have multiple devices using that connection at the same time. This is especially true if there are devices connected to that network that are streaming content. Internet speeds can also be slower than expected during certain times of the day due to local congestion. Your ISP might refer to this as "Internet peak hours". This usually occurs with cable connections and is a result of many people in your area being online at the same time. You may want to consider limiting the number of devices that are connected to your Wi-Fi network while your photos download, or connect your Mac directly to your internet modern via an ethernet cable if you're able to.

Thanks for the fast reply.

ive dedicated the wifi router to this function with a speed of around 30mbps. I’ve only managed to download about 1000 over little more than a couple of days. Downloads get stuck unless I fiddle with photo app ie browse around and download a photo or 2. There’s sthg wrong with the process. Either iCloud or OS Catalina. Any help would be highly appreciated. Apart from importing photos from iPhone via usb because that led to many many duplicates. Thx
