TextEdit. If you don't need a lot of formatting.

Give the free Bean app a try. Easy to use and has plenty of formatting capability.

"BEST/easiest" for you may not be the best or easiest for me. Those are very subjective terms. I prefer Microsoft Word. This is best/easiest for me.

You might prefer TextEdirt Pages, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, or one of the many other document writers.

What word processing application are you accustomed to using, and what features did you require then, and now? Will you be sharing your document(s) with others that are using MS Office on Mac or Windows?
