Recording directly to iMovie running on iMac using iPhone camera as a source.

Is this possible for a live recording? I am running the Mic/guitar through an audio interface into my late 2013 iMac and want the flexibility of positioning the iPhone camera where it is needed.

Thanks,

David

Thanks Rich, that link was helpful. Here is what I found after some trial and error. Getting the audio from my MOTU interface connected to iMovie was not an issue but not the video from my iPhone, even after getting QuickTime to recognize the iPhone as a camera input. iMovie recognizes the iPhone but only allows access to photos, not the camera, at least on my late 2013 iMac.

But I am able to record audio from the MOTU and video from the iPhone using QuickTime on the iMac, but the resulting file ends up on the iPhone. I then transfer the file to my iMac and import to iMove. A bit convoluted but it is working.

You should be able to do that, although I have never tried it with a separate audio interface. You might need a long USB connection cord to plug in your iPhone to your Mac so you could place it where you want. Take a look at this thread where I discuss how to designate an iPhone as a recording device. In your case you would probably designate your Mic/guitar as the audio interface rather than use the iPhone audio. The issue in the below thread was recording a movie with audio using the iPhone as a camera recording device. You might be able to adapt some things there to your situation.
