Blurry camera

I just opened a 2020 MacBook Air. Why is the camera so blurry?

Hey myra28,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I understand you're experiencing an issue with your Mac camera.

You mentioned you just opened your Mac. Be sure to remove all packing material from the Mac, including any clear screen protectors. This is meant to be removed, and may cover the camera and cause issues with photo quality. Another step that can resolve a variety of issues is a simple restart. If you haven't already done so, use the steps for restarting here: Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac

If this issue continues, reach out for further assistance here: Contact Support

Thanks again, and have a great day!

I got my new MacBook Air 2020 yesterday and the camera is TERRIBLE. I still have my MacBook Pro from 2015 and the camera is so much better in my old one. Everything is removed from my screen so that's not the issue. This quality is so cheaply done. I can't even trade it in for a better camera on a different computer because they're all the same camera. I called apple support thinking something had to be wrong with it and they said it's due to them rushing the camera during COVID-19. I hope this is something they go back and fix. It's awful.

Agreed! Steve Jobs would not have allowed this. I too have an old MacBook; it’s a 2012 MacBook Pro which has worked wonderfully except that it’s too old for new software. I bought the MacBook Air after comparing the specs between the Pro and the Air— VERY similar and supposedly the SAME camera— but WHY is my 2012 camera better than the brandnew MacBook’s?? I always prided over Apple’s quality and design—until this flop. Just doesn’t look good on them in the new Zoom era. I’ve NEVER seen a camera as bad— not even in the ‘80’s! I wish I would have seen these reviews about the camera before purchasing. Of course, on the Apple website the reviews are fantastic. I’m just shocked.
