Apple pencil 2 is disconnecting the moment it is detached

I have a peculiar problem with my Apple pencil 2. I use iPad PRO (11 inch). It started all of a sudden while I was writing with the pencil. It simply stopped working. When I checked the bluetooth connectivity, I found that the pencil was "not connected". Upon tapping the "not connected" (to connect it back) I was prompted to attache the pencil on the sidebar (charging position). I did and it was connected instantly. It also showed 100% battery level. Then I detached again to resume work and it got disconnected again. Since then, whenever the pencil is attached to my iPad, it is connected and it is getting disconnected the moment it is detached. So practically I can not work with a 100% charged connected pencil as it does not remain connected from a distance.

One more observation: I tried, obviously, to attache and detach the pencil many times. Once the moment I detached it, 0% battery level was flashed momentarily. So it means the pencil can not hold charge. But then why 100% is flashed when it gets attached? The pencil is new and in constant use after purchase. It is just not possible that the battery is flat for too long. In fact I was using it when the problem started.

I already have,

  1. Checked the tip and it is tight.
  2. Rebooted and restarted the iPad with "Forget device" etc steps.
  3. Updated the iPad software to 13.3.1

The problem persists. Any suggestion before I head to the Apple store for another pencil?

Hello,

If Apple Pencil’s battery sits depleted for an extended amount of time then it will essentially ruin the battery preventing it from ever holding a charge which makes the Apple Pencil useless. Apple Pencil has a 1 year warranty (when purchased from Apple) which means that Apple will most likely replace it if the battery has failed.

Hi Michel,

The pencil was charged continuously. At least it was showing 100% all the time. I have found another thread where someone has complained that the pencil sends wrong signal about its charge level (always 100%) to the iPad and hence the pad never charges it. Eventually the pencil runs out of charge. Dont know if that is the case with me as well. Otherwise the pencil was in use even one day before the incident.
