Don’t be ridiculous.
If you really feel that way and bought it from Apple, you have 14 days to return it for a full refund.
If you bought it from someone else, contact them.
Don’t worry about heating, especially the first 24 hours after installing an upgrade.
If you want to try to find out what is going on, go to Settings -> Battery and look for apps using a lot of CPU.
I hardly use any apps. I tried using FaceTime for 30 minutes for a virtual lesson and it overheated (but cooled down when I was done) and the battery drained about 12% more. I just use my iPad now for FaceTime or the few apps I might use that cause the phone to get hot too fast. Is this normal? My old SE didn't do this, so maybe i just need to read up more and figure out if my settings are correct.
I have been using my new SE for 3 days and today it shut off due to overheating. Nothing to do with camera. I too have used only android til now. It turned back on after maybe 5 minutes. My daughter was helping me on facetime learn how switch between apps. I do not have a lot of apps but there were 10 or so open screens. I closed them and then I got the message that I could not use the phone til it cooled.
please advise if I should get a different model.
I bought it online in the Apple Store. I went today to a retail store and it was checked by a technician, as it has never shut down because of the temperature, they consider the phone is fine. They say the apple phones take high temperatures when they are very busy....But it keeps overheating when I use google maps or scanning when the camera. They don’t want to recognize this phone is a failure, at least the battery and the camera due to overheating. If you are under the 14 days trial, I would send it back and expend the half on a better Android Phone.
Yeah, this is happening to me also, I just thought I was an outlier. My phone’s back gets wicked hot when I’m watching a video or on Facebook. Not when I’m playing a game or when the CPU is overtaxed. If this keeps up, I’m gonna have to create a support ticket. #BS
I just got mine today and the heating happens even without being plugged in. Going to monitor this thread and see how this phone behaves for the next few days. May need to swap for a different model because it certainly feels like a flaw with the design
I'm having the same issues sporadically with my phone. Two days ago I was in an air conditioned car with one app open, reading a news article when the phone got so had I had to put it down to prevent it from burning me. The screen dimmed to black and took a while to cool down. After several hours on the phone with support they've finally agreed to send a replacement. But now reading that so many are having the same problem I'm wondering if this is something more than a defective unit.
I called Apple Care and they replaced my model. I got the new phone, restored from my backup, and then noticed that the same thing happens again and again when more than five apps are running at the same time. One temporary solution is to Turn off background App refresh, but a brand new phone should not need to have a billed feature be turned off to prevent overheating. Apple needs to address this and if there is a hardware malfunction, needs to be honest and make it right for those who upgraded.
I called Apple support and they said that they would get me to a senior support technician. They dropped my call and no one called back. I tried to access the details of my existing case, and could not access it. I had to create a new support case and have the tech look up my issue. I have been paired with a Sr Support Technician who ran a diagnostic and had me create the issue, which I did by toggling on and off background app refresh. I'm now waiting on the Engineer team's response before they proceed with a solution. 😩 #ThemsTheBreaks
I am based in India and after much research bought the SE 2nd generation a couple of weeks ago.
The first few days were fine but now the phone heats up and has gone into high temperature induced suspension mode twice while on video calls in barely 5 to 10 minutes. This is absolutely unacceptable especially since the future of work will heavily rely on VC apps.
Of late, the battery has also started draining very quickly. And at times the screen seems to become unresponsive for about 5 to 10 seconds.
I had been using the iPhone 7 for the past 6 years and never faced any problems whatsoever. Now I regret upgrading. May I request Apple to find a solution. In the current situation, I am unable to recommend any of my acquaintances to purchase an iPhone with the new A13 Bionic processor.
my brand new 2020 SE’s home button started getting hot today when I was just on safari, with one tab open. I let it cool down but later the right side/edge of the phone started getting hot while just on safari. No music playing, not charging. I just got the phone today and it is doing this straight out of the box before it’s even had its first charge. I am concerned this is a serious manufacturing issue. My brand new phone should not over heating from the use of one pre installed app.... definitely getting Apple care....
I am NOT okay with this issue. That Apple recommends "don't worry about it" is worrisome.
I suspect that it will only be a matter of time before heat becomes melting or fire. Even if not, how can I trust that excessive heat will not diminish the phone's lifespan or performance?
I have experienced this while merely talking on the phone -- not plugged in. Not OK!
I have also noticed that the battery life is not as long as was advertised, which has me wondering if these issues are related.
Apple -- deal with this problem, don't claim it isn't one.
Not satisfied with response. I do not use a cover. When in the middle of a conversation on the phone, I can not put my phone down on a cool surface. Also -- A TELEPHONE SHOULD NOT OVERHEAT IN THE FIRST PLACE! TELEPHONES SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE COOLED DOWN. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, APPLE. OWN IT!
I bought a cover precisely for not feeling the heat the phone radiates.... I am tired of the same responses from Apple support on this, just sending the link with the tips on how to cool down batteries. It seems that we have to wait until an accident occurs with this model so they take it out from market.
Thanks, tips appreciated. I'm not sure if Apple really pays attention to the discussions, as they exist for the purpose of outsourcing product support at no cost. They should pay attention.
I will be shocked if there is not a recall or iOS change. Or fires.
Thanks again,
