Is there a way to make the photos app open automatically whenever I download a photo from Facebook? This used to happen with iPhoto, but that is no longer supported and that functionality appears to have gone away with one of the updates that have happened since.

Can't you Control (right) - click on an image and select "Add Image to Photos" from the contextual menu?
