App Store not loading default iPhone apps

I’ve been setting up a refurbished iPhone 8 and for some reason the App Store will not download or install several of the default iPhone apps, including Podcasts, Music, Contacts, and Notes. Whenever I download them from the App Store the download hangs and the icon remains greyed-out on the home screen. Third-party apps download without any problem.

I have tried the following:

  • Updating to the latest iOS version
  • Hard-reset of the phone
  • Restoring to factory defaults
  • Deleting and attempting to reinstall the apps
  • Signing out and back in to the App Store

Any help would be much appreciated. Mostly I’ve managed to get by without default apps, but I can’t use Apple Music without the music app.

Thanks

iPhone 8

Good afternoon J741,

I understand you are trying to set up a refurbished iPhone 8. When you restored this iPhone to factory settings, did you set it up by restoring from a backup? If so, erase the iPhone again and set it up as a new device. This should restore the default apps with the iOS installation.

Then you can redownload the apps you use frequently from your App Store purchases, and enable any of the iCloud features you were using previously to sync data such as contacts, calendars, notes, etc.

Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books

Change your iCloud feature settings

Take care.

Thanks for getting back to me. The iPhone was not restored from a backup, it was set up as new and it was at this point that the default apps failed to download from the App Store. I’ve actually had success in downloading the Music app via a mobile data connection, but not over WiFi. All other apps can be downloaded over WiFi. Have you got any idea why this might be the case?

Thanks for your help
