That said, what is happening?

• • is the same song playing over and over again? If so, the player is in Repeat 1 mode. Turn off Repeat 1
  • are songs being shuffled? Is, the player is in Shuffle mode. Turn off Shuffle

If you don't know how to do either of these things, ask, but make sure you indicate which model of iPod you have. Again, if you don't know, ask and we can probably help you identify it.
