Strange App in Battery list, do you know what it is?

Hey Everybody,

I recently opened and printed a pdf file from my iPhone that I requested from a company, containing a guide for some leisure activities.

later when I opened it on a windows computer, Norton warned and ‘fixed’ the file. Stating it has active content that could be a potential threat.

So just to be sure I googled to see if there is a way to note your Apple iPhone has been infected with malware. One of the ‘tricks’ is to check your battery usage, and look for strange apps.

I did this and found an app called ‘Web‘, it used my battery for 3 minutes in the foreground ‘in the last 10 days’. But was not active in the latest 24hrs.

I can’t find the app on my phone, and I do not recognise it. Do you guys know if this is standard in iPhone, or if I should be worried?

thanks for helping out!

That is most likely a web link that you saved to your Home screen. When you are viewing a web page you can tap the Share icon (the square with an up arrow) and choose “Add to Home screen” from the list of options.

If you look for it on one of your Home screen pages and tap on it you can see what page it was you saved.

well the odd thing is that it does have a favicon on the homescreen, and a custom name ‘2Park’.

both however are not used in the battery report (if it would I would have recognised it ofcourse).

so to check it I opened the link up and kept it open for a few good minutes. And, presto, here it showed the ‘Web’ app with the generic icon. So it must be this link that is causing the ‘web’ report.

iOS / iPadOS devices cannot be hacked or infected with Virus / Malware / Spyware, unless you have intentionally downloaded spurious softwares or unauthorised apps directly from internet and installed on your device or/and have Jail Broken.

It (Hacking) also depends on how careful are you in sharing sensitive and valuable informations of your iPhone such as Passcode, Password etc with your friends and family members.
