iPhone SE 2020 battery draining fast. Lost 10 percent from normal 20 minute use with 30% brightness. Is this normal or is it draining too fast. If im on youtube video/safari, i can literally see the battery percentage tick down

I had the same issue with my new iPhone SE 2020. Battery was incredibly disappointing for what I’ve known from my Apple products. I could see the battery percentage ticking down just reading articles (as some others described “a percentage point every 2 min” or so). Like others on here, I did the typical battery saving tips. Biggest clue for me was the first day I took it to work. I don’t have time to look at my phone at work except during my lunch. By the time I got home after 11hrs, I only had 20% battery life. Battery usage indicator told me that Apple Music was responsible for 87% of my battery usage. However, I had only looked at app for abt 3 mins during initial set up of my phone— never actually used it. The rest was background activity (even tho I turned off background app refresh for all apps). As a result of this finding, I uninstalled the Apple Music app. This DRASTICALLY improved my battery life. Next 11hr work day, my phone had only dropped to 78% with light browsing at lunch and a few txts. I used it to browse some social media/watch a few videos at home, but decided to keep off charger overnight. I’m writing up this comment right now with the phone having been off the charger for over 26hrs and I still have 34% battery life. This is much more inline with what I expected given how much i leave it in idle. Wondering if anyone else has the same issue with the Apple Music app possibly going rogue... uninstalling it helped me tremendously.

I have to echo all that is on the internet. My story: I had an 8. Was happy with it. Did the update and battery went to ****. Thought ok it must be time for a new phone. With work I didn’t have time to even switch over and try to re-enter my apps and set up a new phone etc but it was that bad.

I have had iPhones for I don’t know how long. I got 14 days to return it—shady. Never knew that because I’ve never had a problem. I missed that window while trying to troubleshoot. I tried all the 14 or so things that supposedly help.

So, I did multiple calls with Apple. They told me my battery was fine but oddly also said I might be able to sell it on eBay (it was less than 30 days old). Yes, but really no problem with your phone. Shameful—not of the tech but of Apple.

Next I went to the store. I was again told my phone is fine but let’s change the software. That also has not worked. That also took hours to re-download and reset the phone AGAIN. The amount of time that I have spent on a brand new phone is absolutely and completely ridiculous.

The only other phone I was interested in was the 12 mini but actually wanted the SE bc of the home button. The other phones are too big. Reviews suggest the 12 minis battery is just as bad.

So, I’m colossally disappointed in Apple bc I expect more from their products. I’m now further upset at being gaslighted and run around and at having spent a bunch of time I don’t have to land in no better place.

I don’t know what to do but if I don’t hear that this has been addressed I’m going to get my first Samsung.

This comment is my heart right now.

ive had such a bad experience going back and forth with Apple support over a randomly dying SE.

I hate big phones. And was so excited at the Mini. But given how the SE has behaved, and how poor Apple support is, I got myself a bigger phone. Just because I can’t be constantly worried about a dying phone 99% of the day.

I'm having this same problem just recently for the past few days. It happened soon after the last ios system update early last week. Now the battery completely dies overnight if not plugged in. And I hadn't changed anything. And hardly have any ongoing apps, usually none at all. I hope it's just due to the update or something easily fixable, and not the battery going dead. I've had this new iphone SE since last summer.

Hello,

Consumption is still 1-2% per hour when idle, no Wi-Fi, no data, low power mode.

It does not appear that any app in the hours of rest is consuming anything.

I spoke with the apple chat and they say that it is normal, that in a day without use the phone can drop from 100 to 65%.

Last night I went to bed with 58% around 12 at night and this morning, at 6:30, it was 50%.

I do not know if it's normal......

Can someone explain me why my new iPhone SE drains 50% of the battery life when I don't use it ?

It doesn't happen every time, but it did yesterday (Saturday), as you can see on my screenshot.

I don't use the phone during the last three days of the week. Usually it only goes down 5 points/day (ie 100% to 95%).

iPhone SE (2nd generation, November 2020)

Battery capacity: 100%

WiFi, Bluetooth, location disabled.

Low Power Mode enabled.

Looks like it reached 80% then slowed, as expected. If you want the rapid speed of the first (yellow) charge period to continue then turn off optimized charging.

However there may be a small effect on battery longevity, it may take a couple of months off it before you need to have it replaced.

I would be very happy with that chart.

I did not say I charge frequently. I said there are many options to charge. My battery is stable. I charge on average once a day sometimes twice. I do not panic about charging. Sometimes I charge well into the 90’s. Or even 100% it is of little concern to me. I have learned how to capitalise on this batterie’s lack of power considering the chip it has to work with. You speak of ‘probably’ and ‘suspect.’ This is not fact, mere speculation. And when you say “and it will plummet one day,” I don’t doubt it. Batteries degrade over time anyway. This isn’t about being right. It’s about how long this battery will last, and that appears to be entirely personal - by experience.
